“SISTERHOOD TRAVEL”
(proposal for a joint journey)
WHAT
- A joint journey to be set out by different means of transport: by byke (like I will do), motorbike, car, caravan or whatever…it is not compulsory to travel by bike.
WHERE
- From Istanbul (Turkey) to Ravenna (Italy) through Sofia (Bulgaria), Belgrade (Serbia), Sarajevo and Mostar (Bosnia), Split (Croatia), Ancona, ???, Cervia and Ravenna (Italy), for a total length of 2000 km. It is not compulsory to cover the whole route.
WHEN
- From friday 21st July, to sunday 13th August 2006. It is possible to join us during the period you have available (2 days or 2 weeks... taking part to the project is the most important thing!)
WHY
- To confirm the relationship within the two “sisters”, capital towns of the Byzantine Empire;
- To (re)concile people/cultures/religions that nowadays seem to become extranged in a worrying way;
- To witness (to our, nevertheless so far, “neighbours”) a common wish of peace, understanding, living together….in short, “sisterhood”.
WHO
- Marco Grilli and anyone willing to join him!

DETAILS
WHAT
- The “Sisterhood Travel” doesn’t pretend to be a sport event, but a joint journey that will give birth, voice and strength to a peace message.
- Together with some friends, I am going to reach Istanbul on a caravan that will serve as a support during my back trip by bike through Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia.
- The caravan will be adorned (as the bike and the biker will) of peace symbols and logos, in order to make it visible and recognizable;
- In towns we are going to visit, we will meet public authorities delagations, in order to exchange gifts, armorial bearings and pennons as symbols of peace and sisterhood;
- We are going to involve in this adventure the local bikers clubs, in order to share our effort and to be escorted home, as we were the witnesses of a peace relay race 2000 km long;
- Together with the help of charitable institutions from Ravenna, we are collecting funds and materials to be donated to some needy institutions we will meet during our journey;
- We will document the whole trip with fotos and videos, in order to prepare an exhibition and/or a documentary film on arrival;
- With this web site I would like to create an informatic tam-tam in order to admit the largest number of people willing to join us in our journey and to create a pacific and joyful caravan.
- IT IS NOT COMPULSORY TO TRAVEL BY BIKE NOR TO COVER THE WHOLE ROUTE. It is possible to join us with any kind of transport and during the period you have available (2 days or 2 weeks… taking part to the project is the most important thing!)

WHEN
- Leaving Ravenna by caravan is foreseen on Friday 21st July, and homecoming to Ravenna is foreseen on Sunday 13th August 2006.
WHY
- After the last century, that I would like to define as “the adolescence of Humanity”, due to the turbolent changes occurred in the entire world, we are now living in an age of transition (typical of a post-adolescential period) in which I feel a virulent lack of identity and sense of belonging that undermines with violence the souls.
I hold very poor means to fill in this gap and my only voice is weak; for this reason I thought out the “Sisterhood travel” …… and, if it is true that we will probably not change the world, I do hope we will at least have a lot of fun!
